Consoles and arcades have had nice, cheap lightgun's for ages, but of the three or four avalible for the PC all are expensive or shabby - and only one will work with your TV! Welcome to the Guncon2 Driver Project - letting you use your PS2 Guncon2 (or compatible) gun with your PC and television or arcade monitor!
This site is the official home of the WinGun project. It also functions as a support site for using lightguns on your PC, and a news site for lightgun related issues.

I'm switching the domain registration and hosting to a different host for this site - there may be a few link bugs and what not around for a bit. WinGun is still in stasis for the moment, I may pick it back up someday, but no time soon. As always, I check my e-mail and try to answer questions posted on the forums. |

Due to my acornscity.com domain expiring, I have registered another domain just for WinGun. Unfortunatly wingun.com was taken, so visit and link WinGun at www.guncon2driver.com now (although acornscity.com should be back in a few days as well). I've not had much time over the past 3 weeks to work on WinGun. I've been busy with many other projects (mostly for clients, such as VirtualDropper, and three webpages). WinGun is still progressing though, added to the comming feature list is per-game profiles and settings. Auto-detected and auto-loaded. I'm thinking about trying to merge some of the features of 0.9B (which is unstable) into the 0.8's so you can have them now. For example, I keep getting e-mails about Mad Dog flashing, and since that will work with 0.9B it might be nice to get out earlier. But we'll see. In the mean time, if you have problems or questions, you are free to ask away in the forums! |

After a long time "in the making" the new games list is finally live. It isn't finished yet - a few more fields, and some polish need to be done; but the core functionality is there. I've been working on adding information for the PC games today, they are all that is done (extra data wise). If you like, you can contribute by editing (somewhat wiki style) or adding games/information! If anything doesn't work for you, let me know in the forums. The FAQ has been updated, both in information contained and in structure. It was getting rather large, so the topics now collapse. If you have any suggestions, post them currently. An FAQ submission form will be added soon, as well as a method to translate. The Hardware Circuits section has seen a small update, as soon as I get a clear explanation of how to make the PC-monitor circuit work it will be complete. Of course, if you find it is missing anything just let me know. For WinGun 0.9B, progress is still being made. I want to have all the major features in by this release, so that from 0.9B to 1.0 is a testing phase. As such, 0.9B probably won't be done for some time, if you have problems that make 0.82B unusable let me know in the forum. Some old features that were not stable enough for use are going to be included, as well as another new feature. * GDI flashing will be included after all - when 1/3rd of your userbase asks for it it had better be put in :) * Joystick, gamepad, and possibly early "lightgun device" support will be enabled. This means you can assign gun functions to joystick/gamepad buttons. The lightgun device, read as a game controller, will enable any programs that choose to support it to read from the lightgun with no emulation layer. As an example program, I have been writing a game called "Paper Ducks". Finally, the absolute-to-relative routine is reaching an acceptable level, at least for joystick use. It may be included, allowing you to play things such as Confidential Mission in chankast (which does not support a lightgun, or a mouse currently). * Some help from a friend has allowed me a somewhat major breakthrough. Programs that can draw using DirectX will now have some advantages: a better flash, and my own cursors. This means that duel/quad/etc cursors will be able to be on the screen at the same time, and cards that do not support gamma flashing will have a much better flashing solution. I'm working on the opengl equivalent now, but it may be a while before it is ready. As you can see, some exciting improvements happening and comming! Thanks to everyone who is contributing! |

With the 0.8B releases WinGun has begun to spread to international use, as well as being usable by more than just dedicated testers - an exciting improvement! However, as the program is still in beta, there has been much room for improvement. Here is a partial list of the upcomming features for v0.9B:
As you may notice, the focus is less on new features and more on getting the program to work well for as many people as possible; first by languages and more documentation, then by fixing more obscure problems. If you have a feature request, please post it in the forums - 0.9B is still open to features, but from 0.9B to V1.0 will only be bug and compatibility fixes! Not exactly an upcomming feature, but useful nonetheless; for users with slow computers I will be adding a few options that will help. I cannot fix "The Troubleshooter delay" at the moment - as it is not caused by WinGun but rather The Troubleshooter's method of reading input, however most other slowdowns can be fixed. Along with this segmenting the driver will work on 98 again, with limited functionality. Changes to the website continue as planned, most of you will have noticed the new logo. Very pretty - thanks to Gonzalo for it! He is also working on a translation. The updated FAQ I am working on will be ready in a week or so, along with the games list script (as long as I don't get too busy). Thanks to everyone who is contributing to make this a great driver! |
